'We're Dreadfully Far Off Track': King Urges Environmental Action In COP28 Speech'.
King Charles III shared his hope that the 28th UN Climate Conference (COP28) would be a critical turning point as "alarming tipping points" were being seen around the world due to climate change.
Addressing an audience including world leaders on Friday in Dubai, the British monarch warned delegates that while some progress had been made in battling climate change, the world was "dreadfully far off track."
He called for real action in supporting vulnerable communities whose lives had been "laid waste" by the effects of climate change.
In providing solutions, Charles suggested utilising the private sector in order to mobilise trillions of dollars in critical funding.
"As I've tried to say on many occasions, unless we rapidly repair and restore nature's unique economy based on harmony and balance, which is our ultimate sustainer, our own economy and survivability will be in peril," he said.
More than 130 world leaders are set to address the United Nations climate conference in Dubai over the next two days.
